PROJECT OVERVIEW

In late 2011, Stanmar purchased the Point Breeze Hotel, a beautiful grand-dame property from the late 1800s that had gone from crisis to crisis across different developers. The property, centrally located in the town of Nantucket, had once been a critical part of the social and economic ecosystem on the island, yet at the time of purchase was in complete disarray, with areas open to the elements.

Stanmar had been searching for a sister property to the Winnetu Oceanside Resort and believed the Point Breeze had incredible potential as both a hotel and a restored, formerly beloved pillar of the local community. Through the signature Stanmar approach, our design and construction team dove into the details of the renovation and logistics planning with vigor—everything from choosing subcontractors to HVAC units to colors of paint—resulting in an incredible, all-in effort to build that was accomplished in only six months.

Renamed the Nantucket Hotel + Resort, today the property hosts non-profit events, weddings, festivals, and an islanders-stay-free program. The in-town location has enabled the hotel staff and property to be part of everyday Nantucket life. This property also solved an operational issue for the Nantucket Hotel’s sister property, the Winnetu Oceanside Resort. The Winnetu on Martha’s Vineyard closes in October whereas the Nantucket Hotel is a year-round operation; many staff come to Nantucket to work through the holidays once their season on the Vineyard has ended.

Today, the Nantucket Hotel has been named the #1 Resort in the US by TripAdvisor multiple times, delighting families, couples, diners, and the year-round community for a decade. The Hotel has brought Little Gem Resorts stability and opened new doors for design and construction. After observing our disciplined, focused design and construction of the hotel, the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club approached us to discuss their potential new facility. This resulted in Stanmar working with the club to design and construct their facility, which has delivered the same long-term successful results.

I’ve been with the Nantucket Hotel since the day we started construction and, along with the local community, was amazed at how quickly Stanmar completed the renovation. Stanmar’s team has worked with ours to update rooms, the restaurant, pools, and all our facilities to ensure the hotel maintains its quality and reputation in both the local community and country.”
